What's the difference between retinol, retinaldehyde and retonic acid and how does it effect the skin?
Retinol is one of the best studied cosmeceuticals with many known skin benefits. Benefits include the stimulation of collagen synthesis, decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduction in pore size, diminished acne, increased hydration, lightening pigmentation, reducing atypical cells and improving texture.
Retinol is a type of retinoid- a class of Vitamin A derivatives used in dermatology. Retinoic acid generally requires a prescription. Retinol and Retinaldehyde are both considered cosmeceutical forms of Vitamin A and are often used in skincare products for their anti-aging effects. Although less potent than prescription strength, both forms get converted to Retinoic Acid in the skin.
The formulation, stabilization and delivery mechanism of Retinol greatly affects its efficacy and side effect profile. This can result in its powerful anti-aging benefits without the irritation of a prescription strength Retinoic Acid. This is due to less extracellular product to minimize irritation and greater efficacy from more internuclear retention of the product.
Our elegant formulation of Retinol provides molecular stabilization and amplified efficacy. Our proprietary blend with CoQ10, a powerful antioxidant augments the production of collagen and elastin in the extracellular matrix giving skin a smooth tight texture. Polypodium leukotomas, a newly discovered plant based enzyme protects the newly synthesized collagen from within. The blend of these powerful anti-aging ingredients work synergistically to restore and protect the skin. Retinol is best used at bedtime. However our RXR Retinol can also be safely used in the morning as well. When starting out, nightly use is preferred over twice daily use until your skin gets used to the product to minimize irritation.
Love this formulation! Does not give the irritation of a tretinoin, even using it twice a day. I also LOVE that it is formulated so that it does not degrade in the same way as tretinoin with exposure to sun (I think that’s the science) so it can be applied during the day and retains its efficacy. It’s been a game changer to be able to apply a retinol twice a day daily without irritation.
The color is a light yellow, and the formulation is cosmetically elegant - unlike the chalky gloopy Rx tretinoin.
